Spyware
When downloading updates for Spybot, an icon that looks like a red circle with a ! in place of the green tick followed by: !!! bad checksum?
Due to numerous complaints we are no longer recommending or answer questions for this product.
Checksum errors have been widely reported but people have also experienced inability to get on the internet, conflicts with other legitimate programs, and in some cases they have been unable to uninstall the product. Most important in our decision, we have been getting reports that it cannot remove several spyware variants and some that it does remove immediately come back.
Our recommendation is to attempt uninstalling it and going to http://www.pcsecuritynews.com/spywareremover.html.

We use Spy Sweeper in house. It works great and are very happy to recommend it.
This is a commercial product but there is a full two week free trial so you can clean your machine up without having to pay for the program. The company also offers full technical support to paid subscribers. One of the great benefits of the Spy Sweeper product is that it is produced and backed by a US company with email and technical support.
Based on the recent use of spyware to steal and bank account access and other personal information, we strongly recommend having continuous anti-spyware protection on any computers connected to the Internet. If you decide not to purchase continued protection, just uninstall Spy Sweeper at the end of the two weeks.
