AntiVirus
If I have anti-virus software, do I need anti-spyware software? Will they cancel each other out?
You should have BOTH an anti-virus program AND an anti-spyware program. They don't cancel each other out because anti-virus programs get rid of viruses, while anti-spyware programs get rid of spyware (a different type of program that can be just as bad as a virus).
Spyware are programs that do a number of things that are annoying and sometimes even harmful. Different types of spyware track the sites you visit on the internet, record personal information, make pop-up ads appear while you're surfing the Internet and sometimes cause your computer to crash.
The worst ones are Trojan horses that include keyloggers that record everything you type and email that information to another person. You can see why having anti-spyware protection as well as an anti-virus is pretty important in this day and age.
