I recently installed Spybot S&D on my computer with Windows XP2. When I now start my computer I get a box that says: "Spybot has detected an important registry entry that has been changed." Below that are several lines:

Then below that is a row of boxes -- some have words, one is BLANK. They are,reading left to right:

Now--no combination of clicks in the 4 boxes yields anything I can use to know how to accept the updates (I'm guessing that's what this is about -- it started after McAfee updated were downloaded.). Then, in the lower right corner of my screen appears a small box that says: Resident denies .....(I forget exact wording.) And the last time I turned on my computer, I repeatedly got this same Spybot box again(with different words in the category line--[Automatic updates for Windows had happened]) I need help.What do I do? |

I have Windows XP Home Edition with Norton AntiVirus 2005 and Spybot-S&D 1.4. When scanning, Spybot locates no threats. Norton A-V locates 3 Adware.SAHAgent files in C:WINNTDownloaded Program Files, but when I go there to delete them they are not there. Where are they? Search cannot find them either. This question is on the paranoid side but given today's climate i.e. the patriot act scare...who knows...I have windows xp with windows firewall active and a linksys router (nat & spi) between me and the cable modem...a theoretical...if the federal government only has my name and address i.e. knows nothing up front about me having a net attached computer ...if they wanted to could they a) figure out I am net attached and b)access my computer and read my hard drive??.....and if so would it be difficult for them i.e. take at least a couple of days... |

I was accused of surfing the internet at work during work hours, but the truth is I havn't. My boss claimed to have facts and proof that I did - a cookies log. It showed that there were 4 cookies created or modified during work hours (ad.yieldmanager, trafficmp, vzwmail.vzwshop, ibm). I objected by saying that I have not been using the internet during work hours, and if adware were already on the computer, they will work in the background and possibly create these cookies. My boss called up the head of the tech department and he replied, "that's not possible, these will only be created if the user launched Internet Explorer or surfed online." My boss did not believe anything I said after that, but I do have one final chance at rebuttal by gathering up info and send an email to my boss.
So my question is: Is it possible for adware cookies to be created or modified without an Internet Explorer being launched, if adware, spyware, or adware cookies already exist on the computer?
The company does have policies against internet usage during work hours. However, during lunch or break is ok to surf the net. I do use the internet during breaks, so that opens up chances for adware infection.
I'm pretty much the only one with access to my machine, other than administrators. However, this does not account for people who used my machine before I started working there. They could've gotten the computer infected and never cleaned it up.
The computer is on a network and permanently connected to the internet. I know for sure at least one other computer have been previously infected with adware/spyware before. The lady who sits in front of me complained about uncontrollable popups. She filed a helpdesk ticket to the tech department and they cleaned her computer after that.
My boss claims that according to the cookies log, 4 of them (ad.yieldmanager, trafficmp, vzwmail.vzwshop, ibm) were created or modified during hours that I was not suppose to use the internet. She is using that as proof even though I have not surfed the net during those times. Is there any way I can disprove that somehow (best with documentations or websites explaining how these adware cookies actually work)??

I have a PC running Windows 98 and last night while running Spybot's Search & Destroy I got an error message that I cannot comprehend. It said "Error during check. Xuron55 (Datei C:Windowswindowswin.inikann nichtgeoffnet werden)
The process cannot access the file because it is being used by another process.) This occurred at around 22,000 in the file list - stopping short of the 27,515 tally at bottom left.
Followed by this error message was a large green check that said that no problems were found.
All other programs were closed when the S&D was run and I had just run the update feature on-line. Norton Anti-virus picked up nothing on its scan.

I am having an issue with downloading updates from my utility, "SpyBot'. I continually get a "Check Sum" Error and my downloads do not take effect. I have been a longtime user of this utility and I have donated over $60 to their cause even though I am disabled and exist on social security disability. As a PC Engineer I respect what people do to help the general PC users and I will continue to suport their efforts. Unfortunately I have no way to contact the programers of this utility and explain my issue. I do need to get my updates and I am presently stumpped as to how to get them. When ever I run spybot, it freezes. I have done all the updates and still it freezes. I am running a Pentium 3.0gig with hyperthreading, 120 gig hard drive, 1 gig of ram, Fx 5700 graphics card with 256meg ram... and I am running windows XP. I don't know if that information helps you.. I have never before had this trouble with Spybot, I love the program and am very upset that it will not check for problems on my system, it just freezes even before it gets 1/4 of the way through.
I hope that you can help with this.

However, I am unable to permit the change. There is no "button" to click to permit. just a "button" to tell Spybot to remember this decision. How do I permit these changes? Last night I attempted to help my sister load it onto her computer which is 1200 miles away. Could not find "Spybot-Search & Destroy". I could only find "Spy Sweep" which we downloaded onto her computer since I was not able to find "Spybot-S&D.
I'm familiar with Spybot S & D but not Spy Sweep so, I will be unable to help her with it.
How could I go about finding and downloading "Spybot-Search & Destroy"? This I can help her with.
