Signs of Identity Theft

Unlike crimes like assult or robbery, victims of identity theft may not even know a crime has been committed against them.  In fact, right now, someone could be using your name and social security number to open up credit card accounts, pay for their school tuition, or drain your savings.  Would you know it? Probably not right away.

If your checkbook, wallet, or purse is stolen or missing, then you should realize that you are at high risk for identity theft, and you need to take immediate action.  Otherwise, you simply need to aware of a very important warning signs that should alert you to a potential problem.

Here is a list of signs to watch out for which are discussed in more detail in the full e-book.

  1. Credit report errors
  2. Not receiving your mail
  3. Getting calls or letters from debt collectors or creditors
  4. Being denied credit
  5. Receiving unexpected denials, credit cards, or statements in the mail
  6. Being the victim of pretexting
  7. Unexplained charges on your credit card or decreases in the balances of your bank accounts
  8. Discovering certain types of spyware on your computer
