Microsoft issued two security bulletins on December 13. Microsoft Security Bulletins MS05-054 and MS05-055 resolve several newly discovered vulnerabilities, which could, in a worst case scenario, allow an attacker to take complete control over a user’s system. The extent of damage depends on the administrative rights of the user. If a user with administrative privileges were logged on, an attacker would then gain the same privileges, and would be able to install programs, alter data, or create new accounts. A user with fewer privileges would be less affected by the vulnerabilities. Read the rest of this entry »

Forrester Research estimates that about 2.3 billion spam messages are sent each day and Radicati Group says that junk messages represent about 45% of all e-mails sent daily. Radicati Group further projects that this number is expected to grow to 70% by 2007. Read the rest of this entry »

Symantec recently released critical patches for critical flaws in some of its most popular software: Norton Internet Security and Norton Internet Security Professional 2002, 2003 and 2004; Norton Personal Firewall 2002, 2003 and 2004; Symantec Client Firewall 5.01, 5.1.1; Symantec Client Security 1.0, 1.1, 2.0(SCF 7.1) and Norton AntiSpam 2004. If your computer uses the Live Update feature, you are already protected.

There are myriad updates, many of which are dubbed ‘Critical’, now available to Windows users everywhere. With the influx of new viruses hitting the Net what seems to be every day, it is imperative that we all do our part to keep not only our own computers, but the entire network protected from malicious hackers.
